In the last 10 years, K. Valentová and her coworkers studied less common and neglected constituents of silymarin (milk thistle fruit extract), silychristin, silydianin, 2,3-dehydroflavonolignans, hydnocarpins and their derivatives (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2015.11.014, http://doi.org/10.3390/nu13124238, http://doi.org/10.3390/antiox10050679, http://doi.org/10.1016/j.phytol.2019.01.006, http://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jnatprod.6b00750, https://doi.org/10.1021/acsomega.4c04627) and their analyses (http://doi.org/10.3390/foods9020116, http://doi.org/10.3390/ijms23105743). Some of them were evaluated for their effects on the cardiovascular system (http://doi.org/10.3390/nu11102286) and their inhibitory activities toward multidrug resistance associated transporters (http://doi.org/10.3390/antiox9050455, http://doi.org/10.3390/antiox8080303). In addition, the metabolic fate of silymarin components in the human body was investigated ex vivo (liver microsomes, fecal microflora) and in vivo focusing on possible interindividual variation (http://doi.org/10.3390/metabo10080329, http://doi.org/10.3390/metabo10010029, http://doi.org/10.1111/1541-4337.12342, http://doi.org/10.1016/j.jpba.2018.01.048, http://doi.org/10.1016/j.jff.2022.105391, https://doi.org/10.1002/mnfr.202400500). To this end, tentative, mostly sulfated metabolites are prepared and their bioactivity is studied (http://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jafc.0c03997, http://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jafc.9b01065, http://doi.org/10.3390/ijms19082349, http://doi.org/10.3390/ijms18112231, http://doi.org/10.3390/ijms232315171, http://doi.org/10.1002/cssc.202201253, https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jafc.4c06771).
