Areas of interest

My team is primarily involved in the study of oligosaccharides and glycomimetivs, in their multivalent presentation on various carriers and in the analysis of the properties of the prepared glycoconjugates, especially concerning their interaction with biomedically attractive lectins. At present we are concentrating on galectins and their involvement in tumorigenesis and cardiopathologies. For oligosaccharide synthesis we use chemo-enzymatic synthesis with novel enzymatic tools, which gained favorable synthetic properties or altered substrate specificity through site directed mutagenesis. We study the affinity of glycoconjugates to lectins and lectin-overexpressing cells with a whole series of methods, such as NMR, immunochemistry, biolayer interferometry and flow cytometry.
